[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This moth is called Lymantria monacha.
I found it staying still on the bark of an old oak.
Now, some of you will say that this is a quite classic image: moth, bark, moss, lichens...
I agree with you. This is a classic position for a moth, and is a life saver. Many predators do not have a color vision, just black and white. The patterns of the moth's wings blend perfect with the bark and lichens patterns, making the animal hard to detect.
Even me, I spoted it by chance. I was trying to photograph something else when my sight has focused on this moth laying only 50 cm near me...

Hope you enjoy.

Hello Petru,
This is a fine, clear, well-composed shot of the Gypsy Moth among lichens. Nice to see it, but perhaps it is worth noting that sometimes it is a pest, its larvae defoliating large numbers of cultivated trees and shrubs.
TFS.
Regards, Ivan

sal' Petru,

frumoasa imagine, am facut si eu si anul acesta, masculi / femele.

Saludos... Ricardo

Excellent mimicry example in this macro with good clarity and classic but effective composition Petru.
In spite of the use of the flash, the whites are not over exposed excessively.
Thank you for sharing.
Greetings... Ricardo

Hi Petru,
He blends in very well I posted a Sulpher Butterfly doing the same thing on a leaf. Fill flash exposure looks good. The colors and detail are excellent here.

Bonne journée.

Hello Petru,
Usually the moths uses its patterns to hide in the woods, in this case the colours are not very similar, loosing a bit of protection.
For me is an intersting example of mimicry, accopanied with a good note.
Cheers
Hernán

HI Petru!
Wonderful shot of this beautiful moth with nice markings on its wings, it retains its beauty and against the green BG it looks nice, though it could be sharper.
