Fomitopsis pinicola.
Puede alcanzar 50 cm, por 25 de proyección, teniendo un espesor superior a los 10 cm. Por regla general suele tener forma semicircular y muy pegado pegado al sustrato sobre el que fructifica. Inicialmente es de color marrón rojizo, si bien su superficie suele tener zonas concéntricas de diversos tonos, grisáceos o marcadamente ocres. Los especímenes viejos adoptan color negruzco en su superficie, que está recubierta de una sustancia similar al barniz. El margen o zona de crecimiento es de color blanco amarillento.
Himenio compuesto por capas anuales de tubos dispuestos en estratos sin capa de separación.
Poros concoloros de pequeño tamaño, 3 a 5 por mm, la superficie himenial se ensucia al roce.
Pie inexistente, se adhiere directamente al sustrato.
Carne dura y correosa, de consistencia suberosa y color crema, más oscura en la vejez. Su olor y sabor, quizás por transferencia del propio sustrato, es resinoso. Es notablemente espesa, sobre todo en la zona de unión con el sustrato.

Hábitat:
Es una especie frecuente sobre madera de pino, fructificando prácticamente en cualquier época del año sobre las heridas, o directamente sobre árboles muertos.
