Calopteryx haemorrhoidalis.

I already posted this unique damselfly some time ago, HERE &
HERE, but never had a good chance of getting a nice shot without flash. I think flash spoils the beauty of the textures and colours of this insect.

Recently I saw this specimen on the top of some high ferns, in a sun oasis in the middle of a shady forest. At first it did not want to be my model and flew away. But I sat on the floor under the ferns and waited. A minute later it returned, and I could raise my cam just beside it. The wind did not allow a good series, but I got one or two decent shots of this strange looking predator.

As you can see it is very similar to C.splendens, but the blue of the body and green reflections on the torax are quite diferent, it has deep brown eyes and wings much darker and vivid.

Hope you like!

F:8 - 1/100 sec. - Manual exposure - Handheld - Subject distance 32Cm.

Hello Felipe
What beautiful detail and colours your damselfly has. I think your right about the flash taking away detail and even colour. Excellent DOF.
Well done.

Hi Felipe,
Wonderful shot of this Damselfly in all its glory. The wings look majestic and detailed. Very sharp image with lovely colours and fine focus. Excellent POV to portray it and a precise DOF here. It stands out well against the BG and you have captured a superb pose. Very nicely composed. Kudos.

Beautiful as ever, the colours are stunning and with a great POV. Well focused

Hola felipe,

excellent close-up shot, beautiful composition and great pov with details, lovely colours, well done

Great capture. His colors seem irridescent in the subdued lighting. The tips of the ferns look like frost. Excellent sharp closeup. Reid

I agree with you regarding the use of flash, Felipe.
Apparently, this marvellous capture of a damselfly without the use of flash is rich in colours and details.
Well done and thanks for sharing the image.

Excellent macro Felipe.
Everything looks exceptionally nice..
I especially like the wing detail/textures/structure seen so very well :)

Hola Felipe.

Hi my friends

I know i've missed many of your lovely postings lately, too, but i'm hoping to be back to TN in a couple of weeks :)

Until then, i want to congratulate you on this nice captuer - a species that i am still to see and picture.
Very nice side POV and excellent management of the DOF.

Take care and TFS

Utterly stunning! The only thing I would change is to remove the white area in the background at the top near the middle. A natural history purist would leave it there, but others would discreetly get rid. :)
Otherwise perfect!
