Hi all
probably everybody will agree that this is not really a great picture.
But quite a few people asked me how to produce good flight pictures of raptors. This picture shows one of the main points: be close! This is NOT a cropped image and it simply shows how close you can get at major raptor migration points.
But not only you have to be there at the right season, but also at the right moment, with the right wind conditions and good light conditions at the perfect spot. This year (the 9th time I have been watching migration at Tarifa, strait of Gibraltar) all conditions were perfect for a great Honey Buzzard migration!
Thanks for looking

Hi Tom, nice close study of this Honey Buzzard in flight, you obviously know your stuff when it comes to getting it all right to obtain this kind of shot. Superb markings and perfect DOF, well done.;

Salut Tom,
Jo, et bestaetegt sech dat Gedold an Ausdauer sech secher ausbezuelen ... och wann entretemps emol een manner gudden Dag derbai ass ;-)
Un deser Foto ass an Punkto schaerft an Detail naischt auszesetzen. D'Liischtstaerk an Qualiteit vum Objektif spillen och mat geing ech mol soen, mais et ass secher een Deel och Erfahrung dei een mol kreien muss.

Hi, thanks for the information, the picture really demonstrates what you say. I would have liked to see the tips of the wings but, wow! I would really love to be that close and get such a picture: it is sharp,the colours are great and what a feeling it must have been!

Ooooh , funny and excited photo , very close , very good details , TFS Tom .

Hi Tom,
Since I was out of country and I couldnt visit your some new posts. But three days ago I was in Tarifa. Unfortunately I cant your raptors in there. I captured only some cattle egrets.
You post photographs in nice quality always. This is also great macro shot. Focus, composition, sharpness and details great. Thank you very much for sharing. Best wishes from Turkiye

I don 't mind the unusual cut out at all. I think it is a fantastic image displaying a lot of details of the honey buzzard. Good one!

Hi Tom,

Boy you got close here. I'm impressed with the amount of detail in the shot which is to be expected from the lens converter combination. Thx for sharing your thought process.
