The Black Redstart (Phoenicurus ochruros) is a small passerine bird in the redstart genus Phoenicurus.

Description
The Black Redstart is 13–14.5 cm in length similar to the Common Redstart. The adult male is overall dark grey to black on the upperparts and with a black breast; the lower rump and tail are orange-red, with the two central tail feathers dark red-brown. The belly and undertail are either blackish-grey The female is grey.

Distribution and habitat
It is a widespread breeder in south and central Europe and Asia and north-west Africa.
The species originally inhabited stony ground in mountains, particularly cliffs, but since about 1900 has expanded to include similar urban habitats.
The male has a rattling song and a tick call.

Behaviour and ecology
The Black Redstart is socially monogamous. A male pairs with a female to rear young, guards her against other males, and mates with other females.

A beautiful square frame, this is not an easy task and this had to play with metering.
Well exposed and composed nice shot.

The frontal POV shows the bird in sharp details, Peter. Despite the black colour surrounding it, the eye of the bird stands out sharply.
Hope to see more from your trip to Spain.

Hello Peter,
Hind portion gets soft when Bird mainly face towards you and that happened here. So I try to find bird mainly either horizontaly or facing back towards me.
Beautiful bird, no doubt. Good details and colors.
