Today night, I am invited to a mycological dinner, and the menu includes this one, appart from boletus and marasmius. So here goes one of the most famous and searched mushroom in Spain, and some other countries.

Lactarius deliciosus (Fries) S.F. Gray
Nat. Arr. Brit. Pls. 1: 624. 1821.

Common Names:
Spanish: Rebozuelo, Niscalo.
English: Delicious milk-cap, Saffron milk-cap
French: Safrane.

Pileus
Cap 5-13 cm broad, convex, becoming centrally depressed and vase-shaped; margin incurved, sometimes upturned in age; surface viscid when moist; color variable: various shades of orange and green arranged in concentric zones, orange often fading, while green tones continue to develop, predominating at maturity; flesh yellowish-orange, when cut yielding an orange latex soon turning green; taste, slightly bitter.

Lamellae
Gills close, subdecurrent, orange, greenish in age, bleeding an orange latex that stains green.

Stipe
Stipe 3-6 cm tall, 1.5-2.5 cm thick, equal to sometimes tapered at the base, orange, dry, occasionally with flattened pits (scrobiculations), bruising and staining green with age; veil absent.

Spores
Spores 7.5-11 x 6-7.5 µm, broadly elliptical, with amyloid reticulations. Spore print creamy-buff.

Habitat
Solitary, scattered to gregarious under pines; fruiting from late fall to mid-winter.

Edibility
Edible and good if cooked properly. Lactarius deliciosus requires long, slow cooking to eliminate the grainy texture and slightly bitter flavor. It is also good grilled.

The info comes from THIS SITE.

Hope you like!

Hi Felipe,
I didn't these were edible. Your photo shows them very well, with a rich color palette on the cap. I like the beautiful healthy grass around. Beautiful colors and again, a superb DOF that gives the image a strong and sharp impact.

Hi Felipe!

I'm waiting for dinner and I'm rather hungry now ;-) Looks like your subject is very tasty! I like to eat mushrooms, especially scrambled eggs with it. Great picture, as always with perfect details and DOF. Clover looks weird with these black spots on leaves - what is this? Kind of disease?

Hello Felipe.
That´s a fantastic photo, very good capture here. Very good details and excellent colours and lighting. Excellent sharpness and DOF. An excellent composition and note too. Thanks for posting.

Lovely colours and well presented...
Cesie

I love its name Felipe - Lactarius deliciosus. And it is edible too. Did you eat this one? Or do you photograph them and not pick them? And how was your mycological dinner? Sounds so intersting.
I love the grasses too, so vibrantly green. Some types of clover do have these dark spots. Good composition, well shown... Thank you.

An Excellent photo of this "succulent" gem Felipe! Perfect light, color... ah just perfect ;-) Excellent note and link. Very well done my friend!
Thank You.
