Hi All,

This will be probably my last upload for the time being (maybe one last tomorrow) as I have to start working again,I work as a sea captain on a oiltanker and will have to work for a period of about 2 monthts and will return home (and rejoin TN),

The following pictures of the same caterpillar/chrysalis I shot with a bit more then 1 week in between,I was lucky that I saw the caterpillar moving in a flower alongside the path, then it was easy to go back a week later and see what happened,I dont think I would have found the chryslis otherwise as it was well camouflaged, with both pictures I used my Sigma 500 as Fillflash

The first picture of the caterpillar I took the 25th July 2006
exif , upper picture
F-Number F/16
Exposure time 1/125
ISO 200

The second picture of the chrysalis I took the 4th August 2006
exif , lower picture
F-Number F/18
Exposure time 1/125
ISO 200

Hope you like the composition and maybe can help me to ID this specimen as I tried to find out ,but unfortunatly without succes, thanks for watching

Thanks to Peter Roos (batu) found out that this are the caterpillar and chrysalis of the Small Tortoiseshell -- Aglais urticae -

Hope to see you in about 2 months,

A very original capture, Paul...i love it!
Excellent idea, great sharp details, lovely colors, very nice framing and a very good POV.
It's sad that we won't get the chance to see more of your pictures for two months...:(
Anyway, good luck on your work and come back soon with lots of seascape (or any other)shots :)

Bravo and TFS

Wish you a very good time at sea - but will miss your presence on TN - and hope you'll return safely with a lot of goodies for TN,

P.S. Hope you've got a wireless portable so you can follow what's going on on TN :-)

Hi Paul
I am sorry that you will disappear just as I have found you! Ah well, when the sea calls, the blood must answer. I love this capture and composition: great colours, great sharpness, superb diptych. TFS (and for visiting my "clever rabbit")

Hi Paul.
Happy navigation, the brave Captain.
(I live near the Black Sea both many my relatives and friends are seamen.)

But remember, that many people are waiting your pictures on the Shore.

This shot is outstanding It deserves to be placed in textbooks in biology. Great details, rich colours, excellent BG. There are all of these and many others components of prime-photo in this picture. Bravo,
Steady, Captain!
