[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I tried to make use of this November sunny morning by doing a bit of photography on the beach of the local nature reserve.

I came across three Snow Buntings (Plectrophenax nivalis) that were pretty shy and wouldn't let me come close enough to take a shot that didn't require a substancial amount of cropping. This, at a distance of about 12-15 meters was my best result.

After nesting in the Scandinavian mountains and tundra, Snow Buntings spend the winter on the coasts of Britain and Northern continental Europe, and few, probably like this one remain along the coasts of scania if the winter does not get too cold.

This is a male in winter plumage. The female has more brown on the face. He was catching the flies that abound on the banks of seaweed where he is standing.

This shot was taken with the camers hand-held and is quite heavily cropped. After size reduction the image was selectively sharpened.

Hola Sr.Ivan. Muy bella la foto, a pesar de la distancia en la que fue tomada, creo que es muy nitida y con agradable iluminacion. Esta es una especie de ave nueva para mi, pues nunca he visto algo igual. Felicidades Luis52.

Hi Ivan,
lovely capture of this Snow Bunting. The cropping doesn't seem to have effected the quality and the selective sharpening has been very well done, a job thats easy to make mistakes in! Love the colour of his markings too, great shot.
Paul

Hi Ivan.
First of all one question. Is the best result the shooting distance (15 m) or quality of the shot, taken from such long distance?

Independently from answer you managed to create a charming shot of this beautiful bird. I have never seen this species before. Very mice scene and composition, pleasant fine colours and lights, very good details and sharpness. My compliments.
Alexei.

Lovely Snow Bunting Ivan.
Nicely composed and lit.
Good focus detail for such a long shot.
Great color, pov, and comp.

Hello Ivan,
I have not much time to spend on TN and easily miss things. But I am really glad to see this one. Since Spitsbergen I these birds have come into my favorites. This is truly a beautiful capture from a low angle providing good sight onto the bird. The soft light makes all the details of the winter plumage come out really well. Here in the netherlands it mostly occurs along the coast in winter. In the period I spend a lot of time at sea for work I have seen these snow buntings coming aboard the ship way out on the atlantic near the mid atlantic ridge. I hope there will be plenty left to take nice pictures of like this one.

Hello Ivan,
I had to critique this image as I love Snow Buntings and they are just returning now. I find them difficult to approach, but this is an excellent image with sharp focus and allows us to see this handsome species up close.
