CAMOUFLAGED HIPPARCHIA SEMELE

Grayling
Ockerbindiger Samtfalter (Rostbinde)
Agreste

Wingspan: 42-50mm
Habitat: different kinds, dunes, grassland, woodland
Distribution: Europe, South of Russia

This specimen was well camouflaged on a sunny stone, only the orange tip of wings helped to see it. This specimen was rather small compared to other ones I have seen at lower situated places. It seems that this species has a great variability in size and patterns.

Hi Anne

Camouflage and mimicry in animals is always very interesting and this one is no exception. Perfect exposure and more interestingly you have literally forcibly separated the beauty from the stony BG by your DOF. Superbly done.
Thanks Himanshu
