TN Excursion to Moosalp/ Valais (2050 m asl.):

The encounter with this UFO was a true surprise for us three (Anel, Heaven and me). We had never seen a fly like that, big (20 mm) and sluggish and swimming on the water surface. It turned out to be a female Cheese fly (Diptera; Coenomyiidae; Coenomyia ferruginea; Stinkfliege). I has a holarctic distribution but is limited to mountaneous areas. It is usually found near open water. The larvae are detrivore in the soil. The two thorns on the scutellum characterize the species-poor family of Coenomyiidae. My newly acquired wisdom is from J.Haupt & H. Haupt, 1998. Fliegen und Mücken. Naturbuch Verlag Augsburg D.

Hallo Dieter!

Buena luz.
Un estupendo trabajo.

Lieber Dieter,
Anne
