Little known backyard inhabitants:

Thanks to TN I pay attention to the smallest critters now. Here we have a 6 mm plant bug larva (Heteroptera; Miridae; Closterotomus biclavatus; eine Weichwanze) that is on the prowl for some aphid prey . It is sitting on a Geum leaf, the aphid might be Macrosiphum. The picture has been post processed only for the routine stuff.

ID: there is a great book out for German bugs: E. Wachmann et al. 2004. Wanzen Vol. 1-4. Goecke& Evers, Keltern D. It turns out tat there are about 400 species of Mirids in my region of which 3 species belong to the genus Closterotomus. I had never heard of them before!

Hi Dietrich,
Excellent macro capture of this lesser known bug with great details and sharpness my friend!
Greetings from Cyprus.

Ps. I re-uploaded the shell -which I have not upload the same shot in any other site- again. Hoping it is permanent for TN!

Hello Dietrich,
Superb close up. You very well composed. The insect distinguish against dark BG. This one is sharp ans colourful through flash.
Regards, Pawel

Hi Dietrich,

An excellent shot of those two species, exposure, focus, color and composition are all perfect.

I've only recently acquired some decent books on North American insects, and it's quite a challenge. I figure that if I can get an most insects (or spiders) identified to the genus level, I'm doing well.

Lieber Dieter,
Hab herzlichen Dank.
Wünsche Dir ein schönes Wochenende

First of all, thank you for liking my mountain picture, Dietrich.
Your macro work is as immaculate as ever.
This image of a very small insect is perfect in every respect.
The use of fill flash has turned the BG dark and made the subject stand out sharp and clear.
Thanks and best regards.

Hallo Dieter!

As liebs Grüessli va Tentlinge!

Hola Dietrich,
