Parc Naziunal Svizzer (Rumantsch)

Hi all!

My wife and I just came home from a wonderful week in the Swiss National Park in the Kanton of Graubünden, at the Italian border. Here, the people speak the fourth National language the Rumantsch.

We were lucky with the weather and stayed at the camping site of the charming little village of Zernez. We were surrounded by thousands of larches on fire. I never have seen such an intense firework as nature has offered it this year. The sky was of deep blue (I will show it later) and the colours of the larches gave you the feeling of walking through pure gold...

At the end of the 19th century the steady increase in industrialisation caused more and more people to be concerned about the natural environment and its future.

The founding fathers of the National Park were all members of what is now called the Swiss Academy of Natural Science (SANS). Scientists like Fritz and Paul Sarasin, Carl Schröter, Steivan Brunies from the Engadine, and others were concerned about the increasing destruction of the environment. By founding a National Park they wanted to counteract this worrying tendency.

The foundation of the Swiss National Park was a milestone in the history of nature conservation. It was the first national park in the Alps and central Europe.

The laws governing the National Park were laid down in 1980, and define the purpose of the Park’s existence. According to the law «The Swiss National Park is a reserve in which the entire fauna and flora are protected from any human interference and are left to their natural development.» The law provides the framework for the protection of the National Park. Detailed regulations covering the aims of protection, paths, prohibitions and penalties are laid down within the cantonal ordinance.
The Swiss National Park has three main aims:

Nature conservation: In the National Park no animal is hunted, no tree felled, no meadow mown. Conditions reigning in the National Park today are the same as those of 5000 years ago, before mankind interfered with the course of nature.

Research: Thanks to scientific research, it is possible to document the changes taking place in the National Park. Of particular interest and importance are research projects conducted over prolonged periods. The results obtained help us to better understand the natural changes going on. There is a lot to be learned!

Information: Alongside the protection of nature and research, national parks play an increasingly important role in the passing on of knowledge. The Swiss National Park provides a wide range of information, thereby helping visitors to have a wider understanding of our environment.

Kind regards

Hi Markus and a warm welcome back!

Nice to hear you had such a great time and such nice conditions in your trip to this beautiful place.
Nature has apparently really spoiled you with some superb elements here and i am very much looking forward to seeing more shots from this "Parc Naziunal Svizzer".

This is a gorgeous landscape and one with an excellent light in it! I love how the low light shines on the tip of some of the trees and that gives the photo such a special look.
The natural contrast of the place looks terrific and the bright river bank in the lower part acts well to bring a extra touch of light to that part.
Overall: you made me want to go there someday just by looking at this one picture...it's that convincing!

Hi Markus,
We're lucky you were here to capture this scene for us! Looks like you had a great time. The way you have composed this shot is superb..all the trees look perfectly placed and their colours are indeed amazing. That strip of snow and ice really helps add alot of depth here...great shot, well done.

Hi Markus,
Beautiful National Park apparently this Parc Naziunal Svizzer. Parc Naziunal Svizzer..Rumantsch eh.:-)
You used river very well to generate depth in your photo.
Good light and colors as well.

Hello Markus,

Autumn colours of trees in this low light really remind the flames of fire. Nice landscape shot, good composition and colours.

Hi Markus

Such a pretty location. The colours are spectacular. I really like the way the shadows surround the the brightly coloured larch. It creates nice depth in your landscape. The grey riverbed add more contrast to all the other colours. Well done.

Looks like "cookie season".....I say that because of your ethnic description which reminds me of my g grandmother who made the best cookies at Xmas..all of which she learned as a child in S Germany...in the Alsace area...well not in France but E of Alsace...a small village..I have had visitors from there...cousins...we prepared them a lamb dinner..it was Easter....and they ended up being vegetarians...so they had couscous....what an Easter that was..

Lieber Markus,

Hi Markus.
Simply wonderful place and you have found a great point of view. Composition of the scene is the best. DOF, sharpness of the image are ultimate and autumn colours are wonderful. I like brilliant reproduction of perspective and space. Bravo and kind wishes.

WOW... I love the lighting here Markus... on fire indeed. Gorgeous the way the trees are lit in the foreground "and" in the background. So important to have great far-sighted men such as those founding fathers and those that govern the park today. Well done and simply beautiful... a little bit of "Heaven". ;) TFS.

Hi Markus,
a lovely landscape image.
The mix of warm orange leaves and snow(???) is brilliant.
Great sharpness.
Excellent composition.

Well done,

Hi Marcus,
Thanks for your kind observations on my recent mountain scape.
The colours of autumn on the trees in your picture are very natural and beautiful.
I also like the dry stream bed in the foreground.
The change of seasons shows itself strongly in a country like yours.
Thanks and best regards.

Hi Markus!

Nice to see you again! I was surprised to see a shot from you with this title as it came to my mind right away you already had a shot named like this, I checked back and it's confirmed :)
It'd be hard to tell witch one deserves the name better but for sure both do! The light through the trees captured here is fantastic, makes the whole thing look so real. It would be so nice to see your shots in large print, I hope once you'll come to Hungary and make an exhibition ;) (Maybe I've mentioned this before but then just take it as a reminder.)
If you ever have plans of such just let me know what I can help you with it.

Best regards,

Hello Markus,
Judging by this fine image you must have had a fine holiday!
One forgets how beautiful larches can be in the autumn when the needles turn gold. The POV uses the lighting at its best and the composition with the limestone stream-bed is exquisite.
TFS this beautiful view: look forward to more!

Hello Markus,
I love Larches at any time of the year, their soft needles, pretty cones, gentle green colour and here the beautiful autumn colour! A wonderful capture showing them glowing in the sun! A very fine and interesting composition with the strip of snow leading into the distance. I like your point of view and the colours are beautiful!
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Hola Markus.

Hello Markus,
Lighting is splendid here, with the top of the trees well lighted and glowing.
Angle of shot and shadow well designed to give its maximum impact.
Such a beauty derived from an ordinary surrounding.
Great piece of art too.

Hi Marcus, fascinating autumnal composition with wonderful warm colors and splendid light, very well done, ciao Silvio

Et je te remercie pour tes belles prises de vues;

Une belle réussite bien de saison.
Bonne journée.

Hello Markus! That one is like a painting! All the little patches of gold in the trees, the different layers of colors in the foreground. A true beauty! Thanks!

hello Markus

beautiful light, TFS Ori

Hi Markus,
Beautiful composition.
Best regards,

Hi Markus,
The lights direction/time of day has produced a nice range of colortones..
It has also brought a great sense of depth to the image.
Effective composition, and I like the tree line leading left to right.
Well done & Thank You!

Hallo Markus,

This is a fantastic capture MF. Larch is one of the most beautiful trees when colorizing in autumn - not least a very good ectomycorrhizal partner of a lot of fungi also :) - and You shot them in a breathtaking way. Awesome composition with the road (?) and the river (I guess) in the background, not to mention the hundreds of colorful larches everywhere. Absolutely a stunner MF, bravo.

I like all of Your shots so You have a new fan on the list. :) Have a nice Sunday, friendly regards, László
