Strange things comes to mind in the middle of a winter storm:

This is a indigenous Two-spotted lady beetle (Coleoptera; Coccinellidae; Adalia bipunctata(L.); Zweipunktiger Marienkäfer) despite the resemblance to some of the invasive and also very polymorphic Asian lady beetles (Harmonia axyridis). In my yard it feasts on Peach aphids (Myzus persicae). The aphids in turn feast on my wild plum trees; their parthenogenetic reproduction rate is such that lady beetles are usually incapable to keep up with them.

The Two-spotted lady beetle occurs from Lapland to the Mediterranean and has been introduced in the Nearctis and elsewhere.

ID: for safe ID the animal has to be observed with a binocular loupe on the ventral side. The site www.koleopterologie.de/gallery/index.html gives an idea of the truly amazing polymorphism of this species.

Salut Dietrich,
Fred

Hello Dietrich,
A superb macro!
The lighting, POV, DOF and sharpness are first class in this action shot of an A. bipunctata feeding on an aphid nymph. The composition with the other aphids is great too.
Nice to view and thanks for delighting us with this excellent image.
Have a good weekend,
Ivan

Hello Dietrich,
A most impressive macro of this Ladybird enjoying a delicious Aphid meal. I wish we had a few more Ladybirds around here in the summer! This is the best Ladybird capture I've seen here! Details are very sharp and colours natural. It is very well-timed and the composition is excellent too.
Many thanks and regards, Ulla

Lieber Dieter,
Anne

Hello Dietrich,

An excellent macro of the Lady Bug and its prey. Fine detail and sharpness, you've lined everything up just right.

We have the accursed Asian Lady Bugs here too, they're quite annoying at times, as they sometimes occur in swarms and they pinch and bite, doesn't quite hurt, but if you get them down your shirt,it can be quite uncomfortable, plus they give off an odor that is disagreeable.

Thanks,
John

Hallo Dieter!

As liebs Grüessli

Markus
