[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Well known backyard inhabitants:

In this case I played with the light, using my macro flashes to create some transparency. The Soldier beetle (Coleoptera; Cantharidae; Cantharis livida; Rotgelber Weichkäfer) is about 14 mm in size. Since there are 89 species of Cantharis around, ID was done with a key (Stresemann, 2005).

Since snow has fallen again, I dug this one out of the archive, as the ones before.

Hi Dietrich.
I am glad that you have snow again and you have been compelled to use archive. You have pictured this beetle with fantastic details, sharpness and lights. POV is brilliant as well as all scene. Thin stem create a nice surroundings for this cute guy. Colours of the insect and BG are superb too. Well done and thanks a lot.

Hi Dietrich,
Excellent macro work. It's very close and well detailed.I liked POV,sharpness and lighting a lot.
Have a great weekend!
Thanks for posting.

Hi Dietrich,

A very attractive image, excellent detail, tonal range and color and a nice composition. I took a look at your workshop, and I prefer this version, as the workshop version appears to be a bit harsh, less tonal range and the brighter spots are a touch over-exposed, this one is spot-on to my eye.

Here too, for the most part, I've been posting photos from the past this winter, except for my most recent which was shot last week, as Spring is beginning to show its presence here finally, lots of rain and thunderstorms over the last 24 hours, plants are beginning to show signs of waking up.

Thanks,
John

Hola Dietrich,
Excelente macro en el que se muestran con gran nitidez los detalles de este escarabajo, inusual pose en con unos magnífica vista de su parte inferior. Saludos
José Ramón

Usage of flash has some great advantages and disadvantages and here you have used it effectively record tons of details on this beetle.I loved the catch light in the insects eyes.
