Better known backyard visitors:

The solitary Plasterer bee (Hymenoptera; Apidae; Colletes daviesanus; Gemeine Seidenbiene) is a regular garden visitor. The 9 mm long bee sits on Aegopodium podagraria here.

ID: The genus Colletes can be distinguished by its forked tongue, a pointed abdomen and the whitish hair bands on the abdomen. The species is trickier to identify. In this case it might also be C. similis that shares the rusty hue of the first abdominal band with C. daviesanus. But the latter is much more abundant. Colletes does not prepare nests in my "Bee hotel" made from wood but rather digs into clay and soil to do so.

Hi Dietrich.
I welcome your next ultimate macro shot here. I cannot imagine better details of the bee and exposure of the image (with contrast subject). Pictured scene, framing of it and composition of the shot are wonderful. Well done and my warm greetings.

Hallo Dieter!

As Grüessli

Markus

Nice closeup of this bee. I like sharp details and colors.

Hello Dietrich
Truly beautiful detail captured of this bee. The combination of colours of both the fly and the flower is magic and reminds me of spring is in the air. This is indeed a very long bee and it is well seen the way you have captured it from the side. The shine on the wings, the huge eye and most of all the pollen dust all over attracts the eye to a great extent. This image has a certain magnetism to it, maybe it is because the bee displays so beautiful and big on the screen. Thanks for sharing.
Regards
Anna

Hi Dietrich,

Another fine insect portrait, lots of detail, good exposure and composition, shows the insect going about its duties in a very attractive manner.

Thanks,
John

Lieber Dieter,

Peter
