Back to the backyard:

This is one of those portraits of an insect doing nothing interesting but waiting. I took the shot with my good macro camera where I have manual control and easy focussing. I used the dual macro flash to make the insect body transparent. Now you can even see the heart tube along the back.

ID: easy, with the black spots at the wing nodes and the white veins in the dark apical field of the hind wing. The species has been often presented on TN, it occurs all over Europe with the exception of some parts of the Mediterranean region and the northermost North.

Oh, by the way, it's a Four-spotted chaser female (Odonata; Libellulidae; Libellula quadrimaculata L.; Vierfleck)

Hello Dietrich,
Amazing photo of common chaser, distinguishing light and composition.
Regards, Pawel

Hi Dietrich,

Simply a marvellous capture of the dragonfly!
The sharpness and details are beyond imagination, the natural colors are superb looking, and the position of the dragonfly is another plus point to the picture's rating.
Great composition.

thanks and regards,

Saludos Dietrich: Josep Ignasi.

Lieber Dieter,

Hello Dietrich,

Superb Dietrich!
What a fine way to portray this common species of dragonfly, a L. quadrimaculata that is in its prime.
The almost lateral POV is shown with superb lighting and with almost total sharpness and DOF. The dark green BG sets it of well.
Very nice MF,
Thanks and all the best,

Hi Dietrich,

A perfect and awesome capture from wonderful and effective POW with splendid warm colours, focus and composition. You manged the flash expertly, as usual.
TFS and Have a nice night!

Hallo Dietrich,
Dein Foto ist Klasse. Spitzenmakro!

Sehr gute Arbeit.
Viele Grüsse,

See? The Leica of mine is good if I hold it an inch away but the 100 macro does so much better and you don't have to be quite as close...well...the best I can say is that is a challenge for me....but this is wonderful and I admire you continued work!

Hi Dietrich,

Detail and sharpness are excellent in that shot, and it's composed well too. The lighting is interesting.

Hello Meyerd,
Lovely capture! I've seen too few of this species here this year, normally they abound!
They're beautiful and I like its pose here and the beautiful light and colours. Great sharpness too and well composed. Excellent use of the flash too!!
