Lesser known bugs in the backyard:

I have not seen this Grey shield bug (Heteroptera; Pentatomidae; Rhaphigaster nebulosa (Poda 1761); Graue Feldwanze) before. Without the constant training on TN I would not have have thought much of it.

ID: the species is NOT a "first" on TN as I had announced. More important, it is not Elasmucha grisea (Acanthosomatidae) as mistakenly assumed. Pentatomids have three-segment tarsi (not two) and lack the spine that reaches forward from the third abdominal sternite. The book of E. Wachmann, 2008. Wanzen, Bd. 4. Goecke& Evers, Keltern D allows the determination of each German, Austrian or Northern Swiss species by photographs. The area of distribution of the 15 mm long species reaches from the Mediterranean up to Central Asia, but reaches its Northern limit in Niedersachsen and Sachsen-Anhalt (Germany).
Sorry for the ID error (fortunately I found out about the mix up myself).

Hello Dietrich,
Congratulations for this first on TN and for the ID and note. It is an excellent shot with fine details and a well managed light of flash. We can see very well the texture of the bug and the background remains very natural. A very interesting serie of "lesser known bugs in the backyard"! Best regards,

Hi Dietrich. Congrats on a first on TN but also for taking it with such fine detail , along with sharp focusing. Your use of the flash has given natural colours to the shell. With your top POV we can see the markings in great detail. Very well taken TFS.

Lieber Dieter,
