Long-legged backyard inhabitants (4):

A surprise visitor at the front door (end of November) was this 16 mm-long cricket. It's a male Dark Bush Cricket (Orthoptera; Tettigoniidae; Pholidoptera griseoaptera (=Thamnotrizon griseoaptera) (de Geer 1773); Gewöhnliche Strauchschrecke; Decticelle cendrée). This species is known to get out of the protecting layer of dead leaves as soon as the sun appears, even in winter. But the discreet, mainly ground living cricket is easily overlooked and the male's song is a thin and fine "srit" once every second. For me two things stand out in this portrait: the ROSY eyes that I discovered only while looking through my macro lens, and the slits of the hearing organs on top of the front tibiae. The cricket is not rare at all and distributed throughout Europe.

Post pocessing: In PS I had to fiddle around with contrast and "Darken/ Lighten". I also increased the contrast and saturation somewhat. The rest was as usual.

Hello Dietrich,
Excellent use of flash and a fine frontal POV with excellent sharpness and DOF have contributed to a fine close view of this Bush Cricket, a species common in Sweden and somewhat variable. Great eye-contact!:))
Thanks and best wishes,
Ivan

Hi Dietrich,
da zeigst Du uns ja ganz was besonderes.

Ciao Dietrich. Great impressive lightining and focused close up. Stunning details and good contrast.
