Hi all!

When I took my series of pictures at the Schwarzsee (Black Lake) a couple of days ago (see former posting), I realized once more that a winterly atmosphere is not just identical to coldness. And I understand coldness not only in its physical sense of low temperature, but also concerning the colours. Warmth and coldness often exist side by side in winterly landscapes, independant of the fact if this landscape or piece of nature is covered with snow or ice or not.

The haulmes of reed and the sunrays reflecting on the icy surface create the warm contrast in this picture to the coldness of the white snow and the apparently black water. The water seems to be black because of the dark sediments on the ground of the lake and the reflections of the forest, the mountains and the sky.

I took the picture during a short walk at the border of the Schwarzsee, handheld and in the RAW-format. Basic postprocessing in Camera RAW 5.5 (sharpness, levels, saturation; colour temperature set manually at 6000 K, no hue). Then import to PS and little reduction of the bright tones.

Kind regards

Hello Markus,
A beautiful capture of the ice forming at the edge of a lake. The lighting, composition and the way the dead reed stems contrast against the icy open water BG is very appealing. The exposure of the snow is just right and adds quality to the image.
Nice to view and thanks for posting this.
Best wishes,

I hope you are fully recovered now!

Brrrrrrrrrr, it`s to cold for me...
Unfortunately I can`t see this beauty in my country, but I`m glad because I can see and almost touch these ice and snow through your amazing picture.
Thanks dear Markus about this beauty image.
Best wishes and see you on TN.

Markus, you have described your picture with deep insight and also with feelings.
The juxtaposition of coldness and warmth does come out strongly in this picture through subtle colours which you have not exaggerated through PP.
Most of all, it is a fascinating composition, but then that's the hallmark of your kind of photography.
Thanks and regards.

Ciao Markus,
Grazie e complimenti
Buona serata
Ciao Maurizio

Hello Markus,
Interesting photo in beautiful light and excellent sharpness. The contrasts in shapes and colours are great. Good choice of POV and composition.

Simple idea and good eye very often allow to take a wonderful capture. And here we have such ituation. I like a lot composition of this picture - at first view only a bank of pond or lake, but it is very artictic :)
My best congratulation and best regards from Lodz!

Hi Markus. I find it helps to rad your notes as well as just looking at your picture you can explain what you have seen . I have looked at tis many time and each time i see a liitle more. I do like the sun light on the snow. well taken TFS.

Another impresive nature capture from you Markus!
The details are excellent! it's amazing how life can grow and adapt to any environment. Nice balanced exposure. Very original capture, well seen.
TFS and have a nice night!

Hello Markus,

an good pov and detailed landscape from snow and reflections.
Fine natural colours.

Hallo Markus
Once again you share with us a view of a lovely snow covered landmark and almost imaginative scenery. I see many fine details in this image which I appreciate very much, and your excellent photogenic skills have brought it out to their best. I especially refer to clarity of the shiny snow crystals in the foreground of the scene, the snow on the dried out twigs on the left hand side of the picture and the almost coarse texture of the frozen water in the middle of the scenery. All these small details I have just mentioned might be insignificant or minor to many, but it is all evidence to me of your excellent capabilities as photographer of sights we are not so used to see on the gallery. Thanks for sharing. Best regards.

Lieber Markus,

Hello Markus,
I love everything about this image. Simplicity, detail, texture, colors, exposure, composition and DOF. they are all there and perfectly executed!! I feel as though I could actually reach into your photo and touch the newly forming ice. Great work!!

Markus, demuestras con esta toma que eres un gran observador y juegas con nuestra retina jeje. Una vez centrado en nuestro cerebro la imagen pasas a disfrutarla. Magnífica luz, bellos reflejos y un precioso juego con los diferentes elementos.
Gran trabajo a mi entender.
Saludos: J. Ignasi.

bonjour Markus
superbe scene hivernal, magnifique composition faite de neige, glace, reflets et lumière, le tout avec une remarquable netteté
du beau travail !
Passe une bonne nuit

Hello Markus,
a very fine landscape picture with good exposure and WB, the snow is white, not gray as we can see in many winter pictures these days.
The picture is aslo well composed with fine details and with a good deep.
Well done, mf.
I hope for a speedy recovery.

Hello Markus,
A wonderful composition in beautiful light! I love the colours too, the interesting details and the nice framing.
TFS and have a nice weekend, Ulla

Hy Markus
It seems that in Switzerland the winter is home. In Belgium we are waiting, is cold, but not yet snow.
It is a very interesting approach of a lake edge, an interesting mixture of snow, water and dried plants.
Kind regards,

Hi Markus and Season's Greeting.
I love your artistic capture of this water and snow scene and the soft colours and textures portrayed. It's very calming to look at your image, with each glance, I see something different.
TFS Janice

Hi Markus

The more I look at this one the more I like it - there is just somethign about it - it is such a complex photo.

I think the only thing I would have changed is that little bit of the reed in the bottom right hand corner - I shall have to have a think about what I can take in Scotland when I am next there... this is the sort of thing that inpsires me to look a little less at the landscape type shots I normally take - just becuase I love this type of thing...

Hi Markus,
thanks for liking my simple shot scenery of tall green grass.
As you may have known people have different taste and beautiful is quite subjective. You have given me the notion of some pictures are either you like it or you just dont like it.
As for your shot, anyone who likes graphic would definitely cant resist it. so nicely seen with brown grasses against the soft white and neat snow shot.
really original and special.
And i like it very much.
