[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
On my Valais excursions:

Right after the rain in Bratsch (at 1'050 m a.s.l.) this female Spotted fritillary (Lepidoptera; Nymphalidae; Melitaea didyma Esper 1779; Roter Scheckenfalter) ventured out. Maurizio (maurydv) helped me to correct ID, thanks Maurizio! The Checkespot sits on Centaurea scabiosa

ID: I found it tricky because of the high variability in females. But it seems hat the difference between fore- and hind wing in the red hue is (in this region) a good indication to tell the species apart from other Melitaea. In the workshop area I show a male Spotted checkerspot shot in the same area.

Technical stuff: The shot was taken as usual with a twin flash, the light was dispersed with paper, one flash illuminating the background. Post-processing in PS was as usual but I also had to remove disturbing plant bits with "stamp", the background was blurred selectively.

Lieber Dieter,
Du bist also wieder zu Hause!
Anne

This is a very beautiful shot of this beauty on the beautiful flower (is the flower a thistle?).
I like the well saturated colours and the brilliant choice of exposure!
Very well done, my friend Dietrich!

Hello Dietrich,
Very interesting to see a female Spotted fritillary, so different than the male. The sharpness and colours are great. Excellent composition too. Cheers,
Catherine

Hola Dietrich

Peter
