[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
On my Valais excursions:

Still on my rained-in walk to Bratsch (1'050 m a.s.l.) I met many of the Xerolenta snails (Mollusca; Stylommatophora; Hygromiidae; Xerolenta obvia (=Helicella obvia, H. candicans) (Menke 1828); Östliche Heideschnecke) . This one is seeking shelter with all deliberate snail speed after the rain. Many of you will be familiar with the sight of these snails; during summer time they often seal themselves off from the dry environment at the tip of a herbaceous plant, thus avoiding the heat on the ground. In Southern Europe a number of similar looking species share this behaviour.

ID: I used M. Kerney et al. 1999. Guide des escargots et limaces d'Europe. Delachaux & Niestlé, Paris and the "Centre de Cartographie suisse de la faune" (www.cscf.ch). I hope I got the ID right. You find a picture of the underside in the workhop area.

The subject is fairly common, but the yield is very good.Details are well treated and the same subject's position within the scene is interesting.

Best compliments dear Dietrich! The DOF is perfect so like the details. Very good light too.

Lieber Dieter!

As liebs Grüessli

Markus

Lieber Dieter,
So schön diis Schäggli!!
Bravo!
Herzlich grüsst
Anne
