CHORTHIPPUS BRUNNEUS (Thunberg, 1815)

Common Field Grasshopper
Brauner Grashüpfer

Family: Acrididae
Subfamily: Gomphocerinae
Distribution: Europe, Asia
Habitat: Warm and sandy places.
Size: male:14-18mm female:19-25mm

The few insects still around in the mountain areas are these grasshoppers, which I saw in quite great number. This one was just occupied, when I took this picture..I didn't notice until I saw the picture.

Hello Anne,
Great close photo of this grasshopper in superb sharpness and details. It even looks if you had eye contact. Splendid natural colours with a very good DOF and OOF BG.
Have a nice weekend,
Peter

What a shot at shutter speed 1/4000, Anne!
Needless to say, your camera does not miss a thing including its freshly ejected excreta.
The blurred brown BG supports the subject very well.
Thanks and regards.
Ram

Buen control de la luz y bien aislado el elemento principal.
No son fáciles de captar tan bien los saltamontes ( grasshoppers ).
Fantásticos colores y muy buen fondo.
Buen fin de semana Anne: Josep Ignasi.

Ah yes the grasshopper. I think Ram has many images of such but the subject itself was torn a bit from age. Yours look pretty husky and ready to do some crop damage. It is either younger or stays out of the path of birds and such. Well seen Anne.

Excellent take of a beautiful specimen of a grasshopper. You caught the light just right to bring out details and give shine to the insect (and its product...).

Well done!

Hello Anne,
These little ones are so hard to capture but you managed really well to get this one that also has a lovely name! Details are very sharp and colours perfectly natural against a nice soft background. Very well framed too.
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Hi Anne,
Splendid capture of this Grashopper.Exposure is spot on,focus couldn't be better.Excellent POV,details and framing.have a great week!Thanks for sharing..

Hallo Anne!

As liebs Grüessli

Markus

My dearest friend Anne,
Being not very educated, I pondered about the ""(uuups)"" and then even googled it :-)) - until I looked at the image and read your notes - and now I feel stupid!!

This insect is quite small in comparison to the ones here in South Africa! They strip in 5 minutes a whole bush - and their droppings are accordingly big - when they feel threatened.

Bodylength up to 70mm and human fatalities are known when ingested! In rural areas the previously underprivileged inhabitants catch and roast them - I assume the fatality can occur if eaten raw!

I hate them, because I I grow Orchids in pots as well as Bonsai...

As soon as I see one of these colourful insects, I will photograph it for you!

I am really envious of your camera - seeing you can use 1/4000 sec exposure - fantastic for wildlife photos!!

Your wonderful photo makes me think of sci-fi movie-monsters, because it it so detailed and 'alive'

Thank you for showing your work on Trek Nature,
have a nice day and a good week
Love and big hug
Ingrid

Hello Anne,
excellent view of this grasshopper. Very sharp and very well detailed feature.
I like the similarity of the colour and the background.
Smooth blurry hues in the background.

Foozi

Liebe Anne, nochmals,

Dieter
