The backyard once more:

Hi you all, I'm back from my long bicycle journey to Syria and Lebanon. The pictures I took from natural settings during the trip are not of exceptional quality or interest to you, so I hark back to pictures made back home. This female Ichneumon wasp (Hymenoptera; Ichneumonidae; Tryphoninae; Polyblastus pinguis (Gravenhorst 1880)) had obviously entangled itself in a spider web, giving me the opportunity to shoot.

ID: Ichneumonids are hell to identify, more than 2'000 species occur in my region. They are the "Orchids" among the insects! Photographers shy away from them because the are restless buggers. I got help from James Lindsey with his site www.commanster.eu (thanks, James). The presented species is about 12 mm long, it deposits its eggs into larvae of Pachynematus clitellatus, a Tenthredinid wasp. This is a "First" on TN.

Lieber Dieter,
Du warst also doch in Syrien??
Alles liebe

Hi Dietrich,
A really intersing and oppurtunistic POV. You would never get anything like this unless it was in-flight. You captured some amazing details of this wasp and the focus is excellant. Well done.

greeting lou

Hello Dietrich,
Really a very interesting insect, the Ichneumonids also are very represented in my region, but are difficult to photograph for his nerve and speed, good work!

Hi Dietrich,
very interesting species. Very good point of view. Nice natural colours.
I haven't seen you for a long time! Welcome!
Have a nice evening

Lieber Dieter,
