Invaders in my home:

I take this mosquito to be Aedes japonicus, the Asian Bush mosquito, Japanische Buschmücke (Culicidae). The Asian Tiger mosquito, Aedes albopictus, an ill-reputaded transmitter of infectious diseases can be ruled out. I checked on the website of the SwissVet labs in Bern and Zurich and found the following publication:
J. Medlock et al. 2015. An entomologicacal review of invasive mosquitoes in Europe. Bull. Entom. Res. 2015: 1-27.

What I learned: when you see a mosquito with white rings on its legs, it might be something more innocent than a Tiger mosquito. In contrast to the Asian Bush mosquito, the Tiger mosquito has a white stripe on its thorax, the Yellow Fever mosquito (Aedes aegypti) even a lyre-like white pattern and the ends of the palpi and hind tarsi are white in both species. There are 34 species of Culicidae in Switzerland, at least two of them have invaded from Asia.

The establishment of the Asian Bush mosquito in Switzerland has been first noticed in 2008. It started spreading fom the north-center of the country year by year. This picture might be a first for my canton, but I have'nt checked. The species is not known to transmit any human diseases in Europe.

The picture could be sharper...

Hello Dietrich,
A nice shot of this mosquito which gives us a good look at its unique body features and colors. I have many times thought about photographing a mosquito on my arm like this, but then worry about it possibly carrying the West Nile disease.
An interesting and educational image!

Guten Abend Dieter,
"The picture could be better" -? Vielen Dank!
Mit besten Grüssen,

great macro Dieter,
thanks for showing and remembering this invasion!
