Mute swan (cygnus olor), dt. Höckerschwan

Last season, the resident swan on the lake near my home managed to raise one chick. In winter there were two swans paying visits to the lake, or when it was frozen, flying over. I never managed to catch them in-flight.
But they could not fool me on April 1st, when I finally succeeded some shots as both took off one after the other. One of them did a great show of displaying his (I suppose) feathers, but to no avail, he was completely ignored from a great distance and the two left each in its own direction. So I wonder whether this was again mom and offspring from last season.

Some more info:
Adults are not paired for life, contrary to the stereotype of the 'pining swan' who has lost its mate. In fact, some have been observed to have as many as four mates, or even 'divorce' one mate in favor of another. However, established pairs are more successful breeders than non-established pairs and mute swans do form monogamous pairs for at least a season.

Hi Gabi
Excellent capture of this 'bird in flight'. I still don't know how you manage to capture this kind of shot from a tripod, but you obviously are rather successful as the photo is the evidence.
The composition and cropping is great and the colours are very nice. The DOF is excellent showing lovely details on the feathers and wings and the BG is great as it enhances the bird very well. The exposure was well balance as a little more would have burned out the wing in front and a little less would have lost the darker area of the body.
Well done and TFS.

I like this shot! Great capture Gabi! The withe balance is perfect. Is not so easy to photograph the withe birds.

Hi Gabi,
An excellent shot. Lovely detail and colour, exposure is perfect and I like the tight framing. I posted my first in-flight yesterday (thanks for your critique) and got the aperture selection wrong, I thought f9 would have been better and this confirms it to me. So thanks for that too :-)
Best regards,

Bonjour Gabi!

Excellente prise en plein vol de cet oiseau, l'éclairage fait bien ressortir les détails du plumage et les couleurs sont parfaitements exposées.

Hi Gabi, great capture greatly composed and great details, Great DOV, POV, TFS Kyle

Hi Gabi,
Excellent in-flight shot on this Mute Swan! Very good color and detail in the white plumage. Nice clean OOF backround. This looks great!

Hi Gabi,
it's a very good inflight shot. The details and exposure are spot on. The shallow DOF works well here, brings out the swan well from the OOF BG.
Nice composition and good POV.
Very well done.

This is excellent, Gabi. Very well caught and masterly photographed. I would maby have painted out the tiny white speckle by the left wing. But great shot anyway.

A perfect balance of exposure displays well in this beautiful inflight capture of this mute swan, the details are incredible. The soft background really adds to the image too. Well done Gabi.

Excellent exposure and detail, well taken.
