I've just returned from the short trip to Ukraine. It's really amazing country for west european people ;-D
Of course I've seen a lot of interesting butterflies and moths there. Today I'm going to start from very interesting Arctiidae: Arctia festiva.

Local names:
PL: Niedźwiedziówka hebe
SK: Spriadač mliečnikový
CZ: Přástevník pryšcový
FR: Ecaille rose
DE: Englischer Bär
NL: Engelse beer
UK: Hebe Tiger Moth

Short description:
Although this species is available almost in all countries in Europe it's rather rare and local. I've never seen it before. I've found few these moths on the Black Sea border on high, sunny hills. All of them were fresh, just emerged from the pupae.
The adults are on the wings from May to the end of July.

Caterpilar foodplants:
Achillea millefolium L.
Thymus spp.
Euphorbia spp.
Plantago spp.
Taraxacum officinale Web.
Artemisia absinthium L.
Rumex spp.
Cirsium spp.
Hieracium spp.

hello Chris,
Impressive coloration for this Tiger Moth. You were lucky to catch it with wings wide open. Funny to read that in German it is a bear! Good framing and sharpness.
Thanks and best regards
Anne

Hello Chris,
A very nice macro of this colourful Arctiid moth, the Hebe Tiger Moth. NIce POV showing the hind winga as well as the forewings with good sharpness.
TFS this attractive image,
Regards, Ivan

Witam Krzysztofie!
Pozdrowienia z Lodzi,
Radek
