This is a superb macro!
A great capture of Episyrphus balteatus, the marmalade hoverfly taken from a fine POV with excellent sharpness and DOF to set it off against a neutral BG.

A perfect capture of a beautiful hoverfly imitating a wasp Hilary, focus and exposure are right on the spot, with enough DOF to cover the fly and a large part of that fine flower. A splendid macro shot indeed!

Hi Hil,

An excellent macro of this Hoverfly busy at work on the pretty violet flower. You captured him in a wonderful position giving us wonderful views of his face, eye, wings and body. Beautiful colors and very fine details. A perfect background and lovely composition.

Hi Hil,
I think it is the combination of colours and the sharpness and the slight gloss about the composition that makes this a very attractive shot..The Bg works very well giving a nice contrast againt the flowers.The fly looks quite inviting...it reminds of a brooch with the kind of finish it body has from this PoV.The lighting is brilliant too.

I quickly checked the date...to make sure you had some thing going on there that I am missing here..Glad to see it is timely...because all of our flyers are now gone...but as for the photo...I see it as a reminder of what to expect again after months of white stuff! TFS...and double that.

This is a very good close-up of the insect. First I have to say you have got an excelent DOF keeping in focus both insect and flower. There are excelent details to be seen, on both insect and flower, due to the very high sharpness of the image. Must be mentioned the nice, saturated and vivid colors you have shown.

a nice macro of a beautiful hoverfly, I really loves these flies.
Well composed with fine POV and lovely colours.
On my monitor it seems to had been tad much cropped or tad over-sharpen but that's a minor nit.
