|Green-winged or Green-veined Orchid (Orchis morio). In the UK this orchid is scarce. It related to the more frequent Early Purple Orchid (Orchis mascula) and can be found in meadows and grasslands. It flowers from late April through into June.|
I'm fortunate in that one of the best UK populations is in a meadow not far from Poole - about 12 miles from where my wife and I live. We visited the site twice this year, and we were not disappointed! There were hundreds of flower spikes to be seen including some dramatic variations that can be found in isolated populations of a species. The typical colour is magenta with a paler, spotted throat. We found some that were white and some a blush rose. This particular paler variation, combined with the soft, spring sunshine and shadowy background shows off the green veins to good effect.
A reflector was used to help light up the flower spike from underneath. The shot has been lightly cropped and sharpened.

Very beautiful picture of this magnificent Green-veined Orchis. Excellent sharpness and the use of a reflector gave you the best light for the shot.
Fortunate you are to have such a meadow close to your home!
Thanks and a nice Sunday

An excellent capture of O. morio, an uncommon species in Sweden too. This is a great portrait of the species in flower that is technically superb and the dark OOF natural BG sets it off nicely owing to good use of the refector presumably.
Thanks and kind regards,
nice shot of the Morio. Nice use of the reflectors, i've started using those too this year for my orchid shots.
Too bad about the top two flowers
Très belle macro valorisant bien le sujet par la finesse de ses détails et de la délicatesse de ses couleurs.
A bientôt sur TN pour de nouvelles aventures.
very beautiful portrait, great use of light, TFS Ori
