Common Frog - Rana temporaria. Taken in our little garden fish pond during the spring, when the pond was alive with mating frogs.

As you approach the frogs usually dive for cover, so whilst they were hidden I lay down by the edge of the pond, behind some of the plants there and waited for them to reappear... which eventually they did. I was lucky to get this one directly facing me and took his portrait.

Lens used was a Canon 100 - 400 L IS USM with a ext tube fitted to enable close focusing. Distance to the frog was about 2 feet.

Brilliant composition, DOF, POV, and is very sharp and detailed.
Well done,

I've already critiqued this image, so don't really need to again (it is brill by the way). I'm just curious as to how you managed to post two images within half an hour of each other!??! - Julia.

Hi Miles, this guy doesn't look at all common. I would say he must be realated to Toad and looks as though he has grand ideas. Beautiful shot.
