[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is my second "soft" post from college lake nature centre.
I think this is a common spotted orchid, at least that's what my notes are based on!!!
I have posted a WS, which shows better detail.

Common Spotted Orchid
Dactylorhiza fuchsii

Description
An attractive species with stems up to 75 cm tall, though more often they grow to 20-40 cm. The leaves of Dactylorhiza can be divided into the upper leaves that do not sheath the stem and lower leaves that sheath the stem at their base. This species has between 2 and 6 non-sheathing leaves. These leaves are spotted and the lowest ones may be obtuse.

The flowers are many shades of pink through to white. Often the same population of plants will have a range of flower colours. The lower lip of the flower is distinctly 3 lobed. The central lobe is longer than the lateral lobes but only half as wide. The lateral sepals are horizontal or bent down.

Description of Genus
Tuberous, erect, perennial herbs. The leaves sheath the stem, the lower ones form a rosette. The flowers are in a dense, terminal spike. The bracts are long, sometimes protruding beyond the flower.

The name is derived from the Greek daktylos, meaning finger and rhiza meaning root. This refers to the thick finger-like roots of members of this genus.

A character often used in identification is that the stem may be either solid or hollow. Rather than cutting the stem to determine this character, give the stem a gentle squeeze. If the stem is hollow it will give slightly.

Habitat Notes
Found in many habitats including open woods, hedgerows, meadows, roadside banks and marshes. This species is rather more opportunistic than many other species of orchid. Frequently, growing in all sorts of undisturbed habitats particularly moist grassland.

This, just like the previous one, is an excellent shot. Once more, I like the blurred bg. You usually do great with dof; that's very nice.
