[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Here is my first insect posting. This picture was taken when we had a TN meeting at Stockers Lake with Joe, Necip and Vinny.

We stopped to take photographs of Dragonflies. Everyone changed to their macro lenses. As I don't usually do any macro work or take pictures of insects I only had my 400mm DO with me (with extenders). I decided to give it a try. As the closest focus distance is 3.5 meters I had to use 2x Extender to get close enough. So what do you think, macro work with a 800mm lens?

hi pekka,
beautiful dragonfly, hawker. nice to see decent macro work with that lens, why not. tfs.

Well, why not Pekka, this is a fine tele-macro capture from a good dorsal POV placing the whole animal plane perpendicular to your lenses axis, thus capturing a sharp enough image. Good first try indeed!

Moi Pekka
Nice shot of this colorful guy.

Hello Peeka,

There are very fine colors in your photo. You have used well the light rendering well the blue spots of the insect. The DOF you have chosen is very good keeping the whole insect in focus.

Thank you for sharing,

Hello Pekka,

This is unusual for you!
I also shot a dragonfly, for the first time, this week which I post later on!

I think you have done a splendid job! The insect is sharply focussed and the details are all there to be enjoyed. Maybe we can see some more insects from you!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Pekka,
I was looking forweard to this, and for good reason!
I would never have thought someone could take a macro with an 800mm lens... but I was wrong! :-))
Very good composition.
Excellent DOF.
Nice natural colours.

Inspirational work!
