Portrait of a Cougar
 |
|
[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Another from my series from the Santiago Rare Leopard Project, this time of a Cougar (also known as a Puma, Mountain Lion or Panther).
The cougar is the fourth heaviest cat in the world, although it is most closely related to smaller felines. The cougar is considered as a near-threatened species.
A capable stalk-and-ambush predator, the cougar pursues a wide variety of prey. Primary food sources include ungulates such as deer, elk, and bighorn sheep, as well as domestic cattle, horses, and sheep, particularly in the northern part of its range, but it also hunts species as small as insects and rodents. |
