This is an Egyptian Goose from our latest trip to Stocker's Lake. I've never seen this bird before and didn't think they were wild in Britain so it was quite a suprise seeing this large bulky goose with weird colouring on the end of a small pier :-)

I know this is probably too similar to Necip's posting but I wanted to show a shot of it anyway... I hope you don't mind!

Here's some info on this fellow:

Latin name
Alopochen aegyptiacus

Swans, ducks and geese (Anatidae)

Related to the shelduck, this pale brown and grey goose has distinctive dark brown eye-patches and contrasting white wing patches in flight. It was introduced as an ornamental wildfowl species and has escaped into the wild, now successfully breeding in a feral state.

Where to see them
Seen frequently on ornamental ponds where it was originally brought. Now can be seen on gravel pits and lowland lakes and wetlands. The North Norfolk coast holds the highest numbers; also in areas like the Norfolk Broads.

When to see them
All year round.

What they eat
Seeds and grass.

Hello Joey,

You have captured wonderful details of the head of this goose. (It really appears to have been applying make-up - a lovely brown eye pencil and a nice lip gloss! No wonder its smiling!)

Fabulous sharpess and good composition.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Joe, this is a marvellous capture of this bird in portrait orientation.
Amazing clarity, rich details and adorable colours.
You care for the eye of the bird and it is just wonderful in this capture.

Maybe next time you are at Stockers you can impress folks with your new T!:-) Whenever that slow boat gets there....I wonder if some still go by boat...Probably not... Stockers looks like a place which is more for daytime use...they would not allow camping eh? Or would it even be safe? Very nicely done. Sharp is the key word here eh?

Hi Joe , excellent portrait , incredible details , TFS and good luck .

Hi Joe,

I loved seeing Necip's wonderful Egyptian Goose and I'm very happy to see another one. A marvelous close-up of the face and the feathers. You've captured the textures of the feathers very well. Excellent colors and shadings and that eye is amazing.

Hi Joe,

Amazing close-up, is your other hand keeping the duck steady;o) Very nice portrait with extremely sharp details and bright natural colours, excellent composition. Very good work!

Hello friend Joe;

That coincidence that the two publish a photo of the same species of bird. Neither point comparison of the definition of exquisite your photo taken with the mia distance with a zoom little scope (75-300) but I have only this, that the objectives have a very high price.

Thank you for your feedback as always, you're a great friend.

A hug

Hello Joe,
A superb close portrait of an Egyptian Goose, the portrayed head being shown with fine sharpness, colour and from a good standard POV.
This species has become feral in many parts of Europe, including S. Sweden and suggestions are made to eradicate it, otherwise it can reach pest proportions, like the introduced Canada Goose, but I quite like this ugly beauty.
Thanks for sharing this one,

Hello Joe,
A fine portrait of the Egyptian!
The angle of light really brings out the finer details in the plumage, and the point of view gives a fine profile capture...
Attractive colours, and that eye is an eye-catcher, hehehe!
