[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A juvenile Kestrel at Stockers Lake nature reserve. We had a TN meeting at Joe's (Joey) local together with Necip and Vinny in August.

This young bird had difficulties in not falling off this wire.

From Birdguides:

Common Kestrel Falco tinnunculus

In: Common Kestrel Ca: Xoriguer comú Da: Tårnfalk De: Turmfalke Es: Cernícalo vulgar Fi: tuulihaukka Fr: Faucon crécerelle It: Gheppio Nl: Torenvalk No: Tårnfalk Pt: Peneireiro-vulgar Sv: Tornfalk US: Eurasian Kestrel Ru: Обыкновенная пустельга

Identification
The silhouette of a hovering Kestrel is a common sight. This hovering habit is the easiest way to identify a Kestrel since it is the only small British bird of prey which does so. Its long, pointed wings indicate that it is a falcon and not a hawk, no other British falcon has such a long tail. The brown on the back is a warmer, redder tone than on any other small bird of prey and this usually contrasts well with the virtually black outer wing.

Habitat
Breeds and winters in open woodland, parks, farmland, moorland and towns.

Migration
Although a British resident during winter, populations in northern Europe are migratory.

Hi Pekka,
thanks very much for this :-)))
You got a significantly better shot of this Kestrel than I did, even though I sneaked in a bit closer.
This is razor sharp and full of detail.
Great composition.

Hi Pekka
Nice to see this shot - not only was it struggling to hold on to the wire, it had Joey stalking it to contend with! ;p
The details have come out well, I like the yellow of the legs. Great exposure and sharpness as always. TFS
Vinny

Hi Pekka,

Magnificent Kestrel and beautiful picture! I love the pose on the diagonal wire. You captured this Kestrel perfectly with excellent colors and super fine details of the entire bird. The plummage is superb. Beautiful blue sky for a background and a marvelous composition.

I look at these close in's and think of what in the world an I doing? I am always trying something new and different...and at 63, which is apparently not old but I feel it..I guess I could be just as good as you here and get one of these beasts...but I seem to be caught up in the new hi tech society of nature..trying to figure what went wrong and how to correct it... and in that..it is a good thing that great photographers as you are here to capture what is meant to be passed one in quality and genuine concern...so...in other words this is fine...and better than fine as one singer wrote!
Bob

Pekka,

Very sharp pic of the subject against a clear BG. The contrast between the sky and the the bird make it very catching to the eye and I think your pic is a quality posting.

Hello Pekka,

A really lovey shot of the young Kestrel, perfectly positioned on a diagonal rope across the frame.
The details of his plummage are very well recorded.
Has he seen something of interest on the ground? He looks very curious!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)
