[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Common Tern Sterna hirundo is an elegant little seabird with a wide breeding distribution around the northern temperate and subarctic regions and is highly migratory, wintering around the coastlines of tropical and subtropical zones. Numbers have declined in many areas because of habitat loss or disturbance at breeding colonies, but this bird was photographed at a site where an ambitious habitat creation scheme has produced suitable breeding habitat for this and many other wetland birds.

This bird was searching for small fish in a narrow brackish creek, and was focused on searching the water below as it passed close by.

Photographing birds in flight is always a challenge, and to get the best results one needs to be constantly aware of the angle and direction of the light, maintaining adequate shutter speed and aperture values and, not least, actually getting the bird in the viewfinder and in focus! Most of my best results come from careful planning, understanding the flight paths taken by the birds and positioning myself so that they pass me within reasonable "shooting range." A breeze can be helpful if the birds are flying into it, as it slows their flight and makes acquisition and focus easier. But the main secret is practice, practice and more ....

Hello Nigel,
a very fine BF. the tern standout well against the blurry BG.
Maybe a smaller apetertur to get the front wing in better focus, maybe you where close.
Fine WB and nice nautal colours.

I agree what you wrote about TN and posting, during the 11 years nothing have happend here about
picture size, I suppose nothing will happend the next 11 either.
