[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This shot from London Zoo's 'Into Africa' shows a Meerkat on alert. They had heard the keepers nearby and suddenly rushed around trying to spot them.

This guy climbed all the way to the top of a tall rise giving me the perfect angle with which to shoot him and place him out of the zoo context with a natural background.

Light was favourable and he gave me great eye contact with a classic pose.

Hi Simon,
Very good meerkat shot. And it is a beautiful meerkat in good condition...
I photographed them myself more than once; I'm a bit seasoned;-)
Everything is fine technically spoken...
A beauty as well!
No nitpicking...
Congrats
Annick

the quintesential classic pose, of cuteness but what I do like is the perfect exposure, sharpness and focus, even down to the light in his eyes.

Hi Simon,
The ultimate pose of a Meerkat and beautifully captured. The detail is excellent with individual hairs on its chest easily seen.A good exposure with just the right amount of contrast and a neutral background to make it stand out so well. That lens is doing you proud!

Hi Simon

Another splendid capture from you!
The pose of this cute fellow is indeed terrific and you were quite lucky with his climb - it sure did blur that BG nicely and isolated him from it, too.
The natural colors here are lovely and well saturated, the details on his face and fur are exceptional and the light from the side is wonderful.
The verical composition work very nicely and the note and framing are great, as well.

Bravo and TFS
Horia

Hi Simon,
Solid shot. Good exposure, lovely clean BG and well timed eye contact.
Cheers
Paul

Hello Simon,

How beautifully captured! This is a wonderful picture with a great composition and a very appropriate frame!
I love the way you placed the meerkat in the left side of the picture leaving plenty of space in the right for the guy to look into. The large aperture allowed a shallow DOF which keeps the meerkat in focus while blurring everything behind. This makes the subject stand out perfectly and draws attention to the perfectly sharp details in the fur, which contrast with the softness in the background.
The natural and good-looking colors are highlighted in the warm sunlight. The excellent exposure is a result of a skilled camera work. I only prefer there was a little bit more light in the meerkat's right eye. The excellent and easy to read pose is a great asset as it clearly shows the aroused attitude of the meerkat. Very well done on this one, with great and useful notes. Congratulations and TFS!

With Friendly Regards,
Eddie

Hello Simon,
I don't know why but I love this animal :) Like I often say, I think it is because of their mischievous look. They always look like planning something ... This is an excellent capture with superb details, pose, details and POV. I also like this nice framing. This is very nice and I like this eye contact and blue BG :))) Thanks,
Claudine

Hi Simon,
You captured this Meerkat perfectly, in the perfect watchfull position. Great work on the details and the eye contact. The DOF and low POV are awesome.

Niek
