This was not an easy shot. It is taken on full zoom as the red deer females were not about to let anyone get close to them. I think this calf (red deer baby is called a calf, fallow deer young are called fawns) is very young and probably the first calf born to the herd. Red Deer young are normally born in June although some can be born as early as May.

I suspect more will be born soon by the evasive behaviour of the females.

This little one was hidden in the trees and ferns when the mother went out to the grass to eat. I was lucky to catch the calf standing up next to his mother.

The light here was poor and I was having to conceal myself so I was pleased to have got anything. There is quite a lot of dead space in this photo but I liked the way both the mum and baby were staring into it.

Hi Karan, you could have called this picture "BEAUTY OF THE WORLD". Even though you described how hard it has been to get that shot, you simply captured it beautifully and with art. "I lift my hat to you" for this. We feel all the focused attention of the mother with her little innocent bambi in the ferns. Beautiful... perfect DOF etc. Thanks, really, for sharing,

Hi Karan,
Splendid shot of this mother child. You have captured a tender moment. Excellent POV and DOF. The habitat is superbly illustrated and the green ferns add such lovely colour tone to the shot. Great light management. A huge bonus for all the trouble you took. Kudos.

Hi Karan,
Great shot. This is the kind of thing that is not easy to capture, as you said. It's a real treat when you are able to! Nice framing given the distance you were working with.

Hello karan,
A lovely image!
Well done to capture the two in this fine coordinated pose, and the lush greenery adds to the atmosphere...
It is alway interesting to see the small ones this time of year, to observe how they are following the mother close and all the time learning by looking!

Hello Karan,
This is Richmond Park, right? A lovely sight with the calf. I think the composition is just fine. The greens provide a nice contrast with the darker background. Regards,

Hi Karen,

it's that time of year again! I can imagine the effort that went into getting this, they're always extremely timid and cautious with their young, especially one as young as this. Lovely composition and lush colours, you really can see how alert the mother is here.
Great shot, thanks for sharing.

Hi Karan.
What a perfect scene. I am amazed. Great wild shot with terrific scene and quality of the execution. Tremendous combination of perfectly illuminated light-green grass, darkened green trees as a BG. Amazing tender pair. Their pose and state of mood are touching and attractive. Bravo. Perfect shot.

Buenas tardes,
expresiva y cariñosa foto,
bello retrato y habitat perfecto,
excelente trabajo amiga,

Hi Karan,
Very impressive, a shutter speed of 1/160 at 480mm (300x1.6) You must have great control over your breathing and arm movement, or just some good ground support. The result is stunning. Such a sweet moment captured. I love how mom is checking the area. The natural habitat of the ferns makes this look like a completely wild area.

Yes the composition does make the viewer wonder what is just out of the frame on the left. It puts a nice tension in the photo. There is nice well saturated natural color. Definitely a 10 on the cute scale.

Evelynn : )

Love this Karen.

Perfect composition, nice moment captured with mother and young one. The park is looking fantastic at the moment and the deer are looking very healthy.

Well done for your patience getting this!

Hi Karan,
Excellent capture of these lovely mum and her calf in nature. Nicely composed. POV, DOF, colors so nice. Thanks for sharing.
Well done

I think it is a great capture of these beutiful subjects, showing a very nice light effect, and pretty good quality for the Sigma 70-300 at full zoom. I find the scene very natural, as if you were not there :)
Regards, Felipe.
