It has been a lovely day today. A welcome break after all the rain. I was very lazy and sat by a lake photographing this fellow fishing and preening.
BBC Information on the Grey Heron:

Life span
Longest recorded age is 25 years.

Length: 84-102cm, Wingspan: 155-175cm.

Physical Description
Grey herons are large, long-legged birds with a long s-shaped neck. The back and wings are grey; and the neck and underparts are white. They have a white head with a wispy crest of long black feathers. The yellow bill is long and pointed.

Throughout Europe, Africa and Asia.

Areas in the vicinity of lakes, ponds and rivers.

They feed on fish, amphibians, molluscs, insects and even small rodents and birds.

Grey herons wade through shallow water searching for prey such as small fish and amphibians. When they have found a suitable location, they will stand motionless waiting for the right moment to stab the prey with its beak. Herons fly with the head drawn back and feet trailing behind. The wing beats are slow and the curved wings form an m-shape. Some individuals migrate to western Europe over winter.

Hi Karan,
Splendid close-up shot of the Grey Heron with lovely colours and sharp details on its plumage. The exposure and focus are spot-on. Superb lighting and I like the streak of ray falling on its back. Looks beautiful against the BG. Excellent POV to capture this majestic pose and very nicely composed. Kudos.

Hola amiga,
buen retrato y composición,
sensacional pov,
plumaje magnífico...

Hi Karan,
You lazy lady, just sitting by the lake and making stunning photos. Some of us have to go out there and hope to come home with this kind of material. I do hope you had to sweat a little to get to this result. :)
It is a very beautiful photo. Especially the sunlight in it is good. It gave the water this wonderful glow, and also illuminated the Heron.
A very lovely portait.
