Spent the day with Paul H and my son ( jai_glenny ) from TN. We went to London Butterfly House and Richmund Park. Where we met Joey also from TN.
This young female Red Deer had become part of a large Harem to one of the large Male Deer. She was sat on the far edge of the group and seemed more interested in looking around then anything else and just enjoying the late autumn sunshine.

Red Deer ( Cervus elaphus ) Shoulder Height 115-120cm.
An imposing animal and Britains largest native land mammal. The Male is larger than the Female and has well developed branching antlers. These are shed each February, reappear in the spring and become larger with each succesive season.
Their summer coat is reddish brown but appears more grey-brown in the winter.
Lives in seperate sex herds for much of the year and spends much of the daytime resting or wallowing in mud. They are most active from dusk to dawn.
Annual autumn rut accompanied by roaring, bellowing sounds from Stags.
Restricted to wild terrain in Southern scotland and the Highlands, Lake District, South west England and Ireland.

Hi Nick,
nice to see some of your efforts from the weekend at last! Lovely colour in that fur and very well exposed too, considering how they were sat in the dark shade. Good composition and excellent DOF, seems you can turn your hand to anything. Any decision on the new peice of kit yet??

Hi Nick

So...another nice memory of that now famous trip of some TN members to the Richmund Park :)
This is a great portrait, one that benefits from a superb low and warm autumn light that just does wonders with the colors of the frame.
The details on this young female are great - very neat and sharp - and the DOF is spot-on, isolating the subject well from the FG and BG.
I also like the composition you managed here, with plenty of space in the direction where she is looking.
There is something i see here that i saw on my sigma lens, too: in the blurry part of the picture, sometimes there are those diagonal lines...it's not an even bokeh...Do you happen to know why?
Anyway, wonderful work!

Bravo and TFS

Sorry I missed this yesterday Nick. I have been very busy out here with many irons in in the fire:-)

Beautiful image with nice bright yet soft lighting and the 3/4 pose with focal image looking in a third direction. Contrast is superb. Colors are true and pleasing to look at. Deer are a good subject. Very nicely done kind sir. You are a scholar and a gentleman.
