Here's one of the many loud Ring-Necked Parrakeets that fly around London. I find it so surreal that London should have wild tropical parrots flying around :-)

I hope you like it!

Ring-necked Parrakeet - Psittacula krameri

The UK's only naturalised parrot - it is large, long-tailed and green with a red beak and a pink and black ring around its face and neck. In flight it has pointed wings, a long tail and very steady, direct flight. Often found in flocks, numbering hundreds at a roost site, it can be very noisy.

Where to see them
Found mainly in south-east England, particularly Surrey, Kent and Sussex.

When to see them
All year round.

What they eat
Fruit, berries, nuts and seeds.

Hello Joe,
A great capture of the London Ring-necked Parrakeet: I have seen a flock of them in Hyde Park a few years back and though it quite exotic.
Excellent sharpness and composition and the use of flash was obviously very suitable.

Hello Joe,
It must be very weird to see these in London! I remember seeing plenty of them in New Delhi. They're beautiful birds but rather noisy! This is a great capture of one clinging to the bark of a tree. Great sharpness and beautiful colours. Well done!
TFS and cheers, Ulla

Hi Joe

nice shot, maybe its not bad to lighten a little bit. I have one shot from them as well. They move fast and they r very shy. lucky you, it pose for you. lovely.

I didn't know there were free and flying parrakeets in London! He posed for you like a squirrel would, I guess he expected the peanuts. Great capture, amazing to me and your freshness is always a pleasure! Thanks JOey,

Hi Joe,

I'll never forget the first time I saw these Parakeets flying around in India. Until then I had only seen them in cages. Hard to believe they are in London! I like the pose and the strange look he/she is giving you. Good colors and details of the face, eye, and wings. Wonder if we'll ever see one in Tucson.

It looks a bit as though it was surprised by your flash...cute character almost cartoon like in the appearance...Kewl!

Hello Joe

I am surprised!
What a wonderful capture of this beauty.
I used to watch Fawlty Towers and Basil always bragged about England's palm trees ,he never mentioned parrots though.
These are very exotic looking,I would love to have a butcher's at them.
The lighting really shows off the green plumage well.
Great job , a very informative post.
