Hello fellow wildlife photographers!

Today's upload is from my visit to the wetland centre last week and the first day I went out the 180mm prime. This particular goose (the Magpie Goose -Thanks Paul :-) ) was sitting up on a rock and posing massively! I tried all sorts of angles and apertures etc. This shot is cropped slightly and shows the detail on him (or her!)

It's almost prehistoric looking isn't it?! Anyhow I had fun shooting this guy and loved the cool background that the lens gave me. I'm not 100% convinced it is the eye that is the sharpest point, what do you think?

The only PP was cropping, sharpening and downsizing for web.

Info about the Magpie Goose

Thanks for looking guys, I have massive amounts of uni work so I apologise if I don't do much critiquing over the coming week...if I am doing lots tell me off as I'll no doubt be procrastinating!

Hi Simon.
Great portrait work. Your picture is composed very well. Image of bird perfectly sharpened, coloured and detailed. BG is simply excellent. Its blurriness and colorfulness are great too. Bravo and best wishes,

Hi Simon,

A nice portrait, well captured with nice colors and BG,I think however that I would have closed down a bit more (f8 or f9),to get more dof, however it is an excellent shot,

Hi Simon

It's a great pic. The crop is good as it shows feathers and beak in detail. All is very sharp and the colours are nice. Look like quite a character.

Love it

Hi Simon

Another beautiful picture from you!
This is a terrific postrait! I really like how the head of this goose is perfectly parallel with your lens here!
The details are superbly clear and the colors are all lovely and well saturated.
The shallow DOF does wonders to the BG, the correct exposure is excellent and the simple composition is very effective.
Great job!

Bravo and TFS

PS1: yes...it does sort of remind me of some species of dynosaurs...one that had a similar looking shape of head...can't really remember the name now, though.
PS2: the eye here isn't exactly the sharpnest point, but you can correct that with a bit of "sharpenning by hand"...should work like a charm :)

Hi Simon

Nice profile portrait. Nice catchlight in the eye and the DoF is spot on isolating the head from the OOF BG. Nice camera work. :-)

Incredible details on this goose.
I have never seen a magpie goose, so thanks for the introduction.
What an amazing beak... and I like his hairdo.
Light and exposure are beautiful.

Hi Simon
Good shot and cropping. The eye is excellent and 'holds' the shot. I also really like the background/ James
