Hello Everyone,

Another beautifully sunny day here in Northern England. Let's hope the sun shines on our rugby team today!

My posting today is of a very splendid pheasant! This particular specimen was not keen to be photographed even though he was beautifully attired as male birds are in this breed!

I captured him fleeing into the hedgerow at Fountains Abbey in North Yorkshire. There were males and females on the site and some juveniles, but all were extremely retiscent at being photographed.

Here is further information about the birds from Wikipedia:
Pheasants are a group of large birds in the order Galliformes.

Pheasant are characterised by strong sexual dimorphism, with males being highly ornate with bright colours and adornments such as wattles and long tails. Males are usually larger than the females, and have longer tails. Males play no part in rearing the young. Pheasants typically eat seeds and some insects.

Hello Bev,
Nice capture of a young cock Pheasant that is just gaining his adult plumage. Excellent composition against the green BG and a nice POV.
They are not easy to photograph if they see you, but you got him in good time.
TFS and enjoy the rest of your weekend,
Ivan

Hi Beverly,
have you been watching The Nature Of Britain on BBC1? They had a interesting bit on there about Pheasants and their secret life in the UK's hedgerows! Apparently they';re from south west Asia orginally. They do move fast (although not fast enough sometimes judging by the road kill everywhere), so you've done very well to get thisl
Lovely markings a good low POV, well done.
Paul

Hello Bev
You have done very well to capture this fella...I was after a picture of one myself today and drove miles but every time I got close I failed miserably!!...Its a lovely setting you have captured him in and he stands out well amongst the fine green scene you have captured....And come on England!!
Best Regards
Paul

Magnifique, beaux détails et belles couleurs, espèce inconnue ici.
Merci
Marie

Hello Beverley,
I agree, they are great birds!
I had them visiting in my garden a place I lived a few years ago, one male in front and 6-8 females in a row behind...
This one is so quick you should concider 1/1000 to freeze the motion next time, hehehe!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Hi Beverly.
I am very pleased with your decision. It is great honor for me. Many thanks. I am glad that we met here.

Very nice scene and wonderful bird image. I like precise timing and captured moment. Composition is very impressive and exact. Despite the long exposure time the level of sharpness is very good but not extreme. MY best wishes to you and Happy Holiday time.
Alexei.
