Hello Everyone,

Today I am posting a shot of a Canada Goose which I took at Fountains Abbey in North Yorkshire. This site had a small flock of these geese and with stealth, I was able to get relatively close to the birds. I just loved the way that this goose was walking with obvious 'purpose'! It had some characteristics of a sergeant-major!

Here is some further info. from Wikipedia:
The black head and neck with white "chinstrap" distinguish the Canada Goose from all except the Barnacle Goose, but the latter has a black breast, and grey, rather than brownish, body plumage. There are seven subspecies of this bird, of varying sizes and plumage details, but all are recognizable as Canada Geese.

This species is 76-110 cm (30-43 in) long with a 127-180 cm (50-71 in) wing span. Males usually weigh 3.26.5 kg, (714 pounds), and can be very aggressive in defending territory. The female looks virtually identical but is slightly lighter at 2.55.5 kg (5.512 pounds), generally is 10% physically smaller then her male counterparts, and has a different honk. The average life span in the wild is 10-24 years.

Hello Beverly,
this is a very good image of a Canada Goose. How did you manage to be on the same level as the goose? Did you lie on the ground?
Colours are good, POV and sharpness are great.
I appreciate your abilities in taking photos of birds. I would like to get some good shots of birds for myself, but up to this day they are most of the time faster than me and/or my camera.
Thanks for sharing this great portrait of the "sergeant"!
With best regards,
