Hello Everyone,

We have been having some quite nasty weather recently so I have been unable to do much photography. The shots I did manage were unsatisfactory due, mainly, to poor light.

Here is a shot I took last year. It is of a male pheasant moving at breakneck speed over the grass! If anyone has ever tried to capture these colourful birds, they will certainly know that they can cover the ground at incredible speed!

Here is some further information about male pheasants from Wikipedia:

Pheasant are characterised by strong sexual dimorphism, with males being highly ornate with bright colours and adornments such as wattles and long tails. Males are usually larger than the females, and have longer tails. Males play no part in rearing the young. Pheasants typically eat seeds and some insects.

Many thanks for stopping by.
Please feel free to offer feedback on any aspect of the shot. :-)

I am the neighbour of your neighbour today! and you know, the only place I have seen a pheasant is in a mediavel movie, on a plate with a lot of wine and meat ;-) I would looove to see a pheasant, they look like such beautiful birds and I wouldn't have doubted that they run so fast. The colours of the feathers are amazing and even though you say it ran fast, you managed to keep the details in the plumage. Very nice picture of an unknown bird to me, thank you Beverley,

Francine

Hi Beverley,
