Quite a few times, I have voiced my concern for this species of birds fast vanishing from urban settlements here in India. Some years ago, one could hear them chirruping away all the day long, but not now.
Mercifully, there were plenty of House Sparrows at Skipton in North Yorkshire where I stayed for 5 days this July along with my students on an exchange visit. We were putting up in a roadside inn outside the town where it was all peaceful and beautiful. And lots of House Sparrows making the usual din.
One morning, I saw some of them having a nice bath in the small puddle the rain had formed outside the cottage I was residing in. I captured this male of the species when it stopped for a moment in his bathing actions of dipping, rolling and shaking.
Thanks for looking. |

Hello Ram,
Nice photo of this House Sparrow in good sharpness but it's noisy, specially in the background. Taken from an excellent POV. Nice natural colors too.
Regards,
Peter
