Thought you all might like a change from my little caterpillar friends so this evening on the way home from work I popped into what was my mums garden to look to see if there were any Dragonflies hunting the sunny side of the border hedge.
I found this one hunting up and down looking for insects. She is a Southern Hawker dragonfly (Aeshna cyanea) I tend to think of them as a late summer species as we tend not to see our 1st ones till the end of august though the books talk about them being on the wing from the middle of July to the Middle of September and into October in a warm year.
she is seen here resting between hunting flights to catch some of the masses of insects flying just above the grass of the meadow, every now and again she would fly back to the border hedge and hang from a twig to rest.
Hope you like her

wow, what a beauty, robert! :-)
she is really pretty, and i always thought the red Ruddy
Darters were great...but this green and brown pattern is awesome.
superb straight-on-the-back-pov showing the whole interesting
body and the wings with their amazing structure in a terrific hanging pose.
i wonder if they live in my area, too.
well seen & captured, thorsten.

Hello Robert, I like this shot!
The BG is in perfect OOF so your subject is in good evidence.
The colors are natural and the details great.
Usefull note.

why is it, you get all the creatures sitting down and resting, but when I'm around they are always flying around...

We have one that looks just like this that patrols our 'garden' (you'll understand the quotes soon enough) and a blue one that comes and visits as well...

You have some lovely rich colours in this picture adn an excellent DOF. very nicely done...
