Common Rosegill

[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
I am fairly confident with the ident of this one , but of course there are better people than me out there at identiefying fungi who may tell me different.
Volvariella gloiocephala (Common Rosegill)
Afungus of Grassland or richly composted soil and even in the edges of the compost heap, here it is seen growing in an old grassed orchard at my mothers house. The expanded cap is 5 -7cm across and is 5 -9cm tall, it starts off domed as here , but will flattern out as they age. Colour varies from almost white to a dirty grey as here.
the cap absorbs water very easily and becomes sticky and gelatinous as can be seen by the insects stuck to its surface.
The day day was a misty dull one but late in the afternoon some weak sun shine managed to improve things a little so I could get this shot.

Hi Robert, nice photo an interesting grassland species, not sure about your ID the ring on the stipe is what concerns me. Volvariella gloiocephala which is a Synonym for Volvariella speciosa should not have one! I am incline to thing its the remains of a cortina which places it with in the Cortinarius genus added to that its brown which is probably from the brown spores that Cortinarius have were if its a Volvariella it should have pink spores. hope this is some help I do hate been the bearer of bad news.

Thanks Robert. I cannot enter in the competition for the ID. My knowledge in this domain is brought by you and other members of TN as Felipe, Steve, Clive, etc. I am very gratefull for this and if I find a nice one during my walks in forest I promise to post a picture of it even I do not know the ID. I have posted one one time and I have receive help for the ID: Shaggy Pholiota.
Again the ident. pain with mushrooms. Sometimes I come acroos beautiful shots I have unposted because I am not sure of the ident. I agree with Clive that this looks like a cortinarious, although I have never came across any Volvariella so poor opinion, I am afraid. Nice to see you las posts too. Thanks.
