Here's another shot from the photography day at Cotswold Wildlife Park!

I hope you like it!

White-naped Crane - Grus vipio

A member of the crane family. It is a large bird, 112-125 cm (44-49 in) long, approximately 130 cm (4 ft) tall and weighing about 5.6 kg (12 lbs) with pinkish legs, grey and white striped neck, and a red face patch.

The White-naped Crane breeds in northeastern Mongolia, northeastern China, and adjacent areas of southeastern Russia where a program at Khinganski Nature Reserve raises eggs provided from U.S. zoos to bolster the species. Different groups of the birds migrate to winter near the Yangtze River, the DMZ in Korea and on Kyūshū in Japan. They also reach Kazakhstan and Taiwan. Only about 4,900 and 5,400 individuals remain in the wild.

Its diet consists mainly of insects, seeds, roots, plants and small animals. The eggs are about 3 1/2 inches in length.

Due to ongoing habitat loss and overhunting in some areas, the White-naped Crane is evaluated as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. It is listed on Appendix I and II of CITES.

Hi Joe,
Great portrait of this crane, showing amazing details and splendid colors. Wonderful eye color is my favorite part of the image. Thank you Joe.

Fascinating colours on the head of this Crane, Joe.
Once again, an immaculate bird portrait from you.
The plain green BG serves a great purpose in this picture.
Thanks and all the best.

Hello Joe

This is super.An excellent portrait.
The POV is terrific with very good DOF.
You have managed tack sharp focus and detail.
The light is well handeld.
Wonderful vivid natural colours.

You indeed have been doing some out and abouting whilst we have what I call London Weather here in Washington..fog and fog and fog...Driving me nuts..I almost wish it would snow..It was supposed to!!!
A fine image of a new creature in aviaries for me...at least by this look. Good spot on the bill which looks as though it would make a mighty weapon..who knows what ancient Mongols did? Mongolia is almost like a different planet...something akin to Antarctica but with more green and more people..and a lot more Vodka from what I have heard.

I like the way you managed to built the composition, due to his long beak. The resulting one is very good!
