Although common in much of Britain, bluebells are rare in the rest of Europe and absent from the rest of the world. This picture was taken not far from my house in a lovely wood.
The bluebell is a bulbous plant abundant in woods, hedgerows, and meadows adjoining woods. It thrives in good soil with partial shade.
Carpets of spring-flowering English bluebells, Endymion nonscripta, are a familiar sight throughout mainland Britain, from Cape Wrath on the north coast of Scotland to Land’s End in Cornwall. The symbol of the Botanical Society of the British Isles, they thrive in damp conditions. The theft of bluebell bulbs from their native woodlands has become an increasing problem in recent years.

Lovely image Pompey. Beautiful bluebells in lovely light. What time of day did you take it? I love the intensity of colour in the flowers :) I've gotta get me a shot like this!

Spring at its best. I like the lighting and colours in the shot. I might have sharpened it a little - but that's just my taste.

Uau! Not just because I love the blue colour, but the picture is just a dream. You were able to let us "feel" the mood of such a marvelous view.
I did not know that the rest of Europe has no such pretty flowers. One more reason to visit the UK one day.
Thank you very much for sharing.

Ah Michael, I would love to see a carpet of bluebells just like this. Absolutely wonderful composition. Brilliant colours and details. Thank you so much for sharing. I love it.

A beautiful shot, I want one just like it. I'll have to take a walk up to my local wood where there was a carpet of bluebell shoots a month or so back...

A very familiar image Michael,
And one which I never tire of. It's a very nice feeling, walking through woodland with a bluebell carpet.
You've composed this shot very well, wonderful colours and details. The sun coming through, gives a warming touch to this image.
Thanks for posting

Hello Michael! Officially spring in the U.K., the bluebells are out! This has to be amazing to see in person. Beautiful capture, the greens adding much to the composition. Well done!

Very pleasing shot Michael. Excellent colors and light in this beautiful setting. Well done!

Great shot Michael!
Perfect light and great colours.
As you said this plant is very rare in the rest of Europe. As I know it cannot be found in wild in Poland and this is, no doubt, a great pity.
I suppose British forests must looks amazing at this time. Well, I guess it's just one more reason to visit this beautiful island.

This is not a duck :)

Beautiful scene and well composed, the English countryside is looking good, but still way to cold for me.
