Nice shot of this Nymphalidae!
The specie is a Vanessa atalanta (Linnaeus, 1758).
Known as Red admiral in english.
Beautiful colours!
Welcome to TN!

Hi Pam,
there is a pleasant light with well detailed shadows in your picture. Quite a good portrait of the Red Admiral in its surroundings. That's a quick and powerful flyer, hard to approach when sitting on the ground. To my knowledge, that species does not breed and hibernate in the UK, although it can be found regularly from June to October, November.
These butterflies are migrants, flying hundreds of miles, crossing the Alps and crossing the sea. Nice shot!
Thanks and regards,

Welcome to the party.
